Continuous Improvement

"Not every change is an improvement, but every improvement requires a change"

Don Berwick, Physician and CEO of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement

Continuous improvement is applying Process Thinking and Statistical Thinking tools to improving care processes. Continuous is not sporadic, it needs to happen every day with every patient. And at all levels of the organization.

Continuous improvement is an organizational effort and requires an effective management reporting system. The most effective performance reporting system is an integrated balanced scorecard system. We will conclude this week with a discussion of balanced scorecards.
