Variance Management Systems

The whole course has been about this topic. Variance data is the biggest and best source of data on actual clinical care ever available in healthcare.

We will simply present (for the last time, I promise) the Gateway Variance Model.

Variance systems should record all data, but abstract for analysis only gateway and other critical variances. The abstracted data sets off the alarms when significant problems occur and indicate where to drill for more data to resolve the problems.

A key component of the variance system is the patient documentation that records it.
