Operational Issues

OK, now that I have proven you cannot analyze variance data, should you bother to collect it?

Yes!

The issue is how to collect it without creating a revolt. Or swamping some poor data entry clerk.

In the next few pages we will discuss the operational issues or collecting, storing, and reporting variance data quickly, efficiently, and cheaply.

Among the issues we will discuss are:

  • Too much data.
  • Too much paper.
  • Too little flexibility.
  • Too little communication between team members.
  • Too little information flowing back to the bedside within a reasonable timeframe.
