Well, hopefully we have not completely destroyed your faith in your variance management system. We have talked about several serious statistical, operational, and legal issues. I know these are problems because I struggled with them.

What's Next

Now that we have presented the problems with the traditional approach to clinical pathways variance systems we will present our Next Generation variance management system, the Gateway System. The Gateway System uses a different approach to variances that is derived from quality management tools and techniques. It seeks to answer the So What question by viewing your clinical processes through the outcomes lens.
