Issues in Variance Management System Design

Now that we have provided some context for this material and a sense of the outcome, we will next discuss the issues that influence variance systems design. The major issues are:

  • Statistical. Variance analysis is subject to statistical laws. Sample size, correlation between variances, and the "cascade effect" are the most important issues we will cover.
  • Logistical / Operational. Reducing documentation; guaranteeing data quality and integrity; facilitating intra-team communication.
  • Legal. I am NOT a lawyer. And every lawyer has their own interpretation of the legal issues associated with pathways and variance analysis. We will present and discuss an informative legal analysis from a noted Boston lawyer.

After we have presented all of the problems, we will work through the tools you need to overcome these problems and design your own variance system.
